Shrek Community

Technical director, lights and sound design

How I spend my days: Retired but working for High Tech Kids, a nonprofit that runs school-age robotics programs in Minnesota.

My most enjoyable past theater role: Behind the scenes: doing the sound for Woodbury Community Theatre’s The Hunchback of Notre Dame. When the choir was singing and the music was playing, I was ringing the big loud bells. Onstage: I was the archbishop for the Minnesota Opera’s production of Tosca. It took me 15 minutes with help to put on my costume (which was imported from Rome), and I was on stage for only 8 minutes.

One word to describe myself: Smiling.

A surprising thing about me: Someday I would like to unify general relativity with quantum theory.

What I do for fun: Summer water sports, swimming, skiing, jet skiing, sailing.

Volunteer activities: Anywhere I can (church, schools, theaters), all the time. Because it’s the way I was brought up and I’m able to.

Donkey

“I’m looking forward to clippity-clopping my way around in a neat costume!”

How I spend my days: Artistic director at Trapped Puzzle Rooms, designing and building puzzle-y things.

My most enjoyable past theater role: Edward Bloom in Big Fish.

One word to describe myself: Artsy-fartsy.

A surprising thing about me: I’ve actually always been a donkey in a human costume.

What I do for fun: Play board games and tabletop RPGs (role playing games) – nerd life forever.

Young Shrek, Baby Bear

“I’m very happy because they are SUPER fun to play.”

How I spend my days: I will be in seventh grade at Lake Middle School this fall.

My most enjoyable past theater role: The queen in Cinderella because it had lots of lines and I had to act a lot.

One word to describe myself: Kindhearted.

A surprising thing about me: I have straight As in school and I love younger kids.

What I do for fun: I love to act, bake, babysit and play outside.

Volunteer activities: I volunteer at my church, helping in the nursery and with Vacation Bible School in the summer where I work with different groups.

Mama Bear, Queen Lillian

“I will be playing Mama Bear which will be really fun as Baby Bear will be played by my daughter Sydney. I’m excited that there will be some familiar faces in this production and am also excited to meet many new faces as well.”

How I spend my days: Teacher in South Washington County; this fall I’ll be teaching kindergarten at Liberty Ridge Elementary School.

My most enjoyable past theater role: The first time I played Nellie Forbush in South Pacific – that was a role that changed my life as I met my husband during that show (he played Lieutenant Joe Cable). A few years later we both did the same show again with another theater company and were cast in the exact same roles!

One word to describe myself: Passionate.

A surprising thing about me: We moved from Florida five years ago, and now I live in Woodbury, teach in Woodbury, and am doing community theater in Woodbury. So while I love to travel and visit other places, I think it’s safe to say that I love Woodbury.

What I do for fun: I enjoy spending time with my family and friends, reading, singing, playing volleyball, traveling, theater, sporting events and having fun.

Volunteer activities: Helping with events at my kids’ school or at my own school where I am teaching, singing at church, volunteering with organizations such as Feed My Starving Children.

Dragon

“I’m super pumped about the song – it will be a blast to sing it!”

How I spend my days: I’m in transition from being a technical specialist (building and administrating databases), currently working as a technician in a lab.

My most enjoyable past theater role: I don’t have much theater experience, but I’d say at this point, Deloris in Sister Act.

One word to describe myself: Realist.

A surprising thing about me: Right now I’m surprising myself being in my fourth musical in 12 months. People are often surprised to know that I very much need dedicated, quiet, alone time to recharge my energy because I’m deeply introverted (which is not the same as being shy), so I’m often mistaken for being an extrovert.

What I do for fun: Puzzles, play piano, crochet blankets, hang out with nieces/nephews, work out.

Volunteer activities: My church nursery and at a school doing various things including helping with their Christmas and spring programs.
