Auditions are now open for ODCT’s spring/summer production of Footloose the Musical! Join us for this musical based on the 1980’s movie about freedom, healing, and the power of young people to challenge unfair rules.

When teenager, Ren McCormack, moves from Chicago to the small town of Bomont, he soon learns that dancing and rock music are banned after a tragic accident involving local teenagers. Ren challenges the town’s rules (held strongly by the town minister) and fights for the right to hold a high school dance. Along the way he befriends locals, falls for the minister’s rebellious daughter, and helps the community confront its fears and heal from the past.
Please prepare 60-90 seconds of a musical theater piece for your vocal audition. Bring sheet music in the key in which you plan to perform (an accompanist will be provided; tracks or a capella are also acceptable), a resume, and a headshot. Come dressed to move – after your vocal audition be prepared to stay to do a small group dance audition.
Ages 16+ are encouraged to audition. Please be aware that casting considerations for lead roles may be limited to those over 18

We hope to see a broad and diverse spectrum of performers at auditions and are open to non-traditional casting.
Auditions will be held at Woodbury Sports Center (4125 Radio Dr, Woodbury, MN 55118) on Thursday, April 2nd, 6-10pm and Saturday, April 4th 12-5pm. Invited callbacks will take place the evening of Monday, April 6th.
Video auditions will be accepted on a case-by-case basis and are due by Saturday, April 4th. Please reach out to sarah.schmitt@opendoorcommunitytheatre.org for such requests.
Rehearsals will begin with an All Cast Meet and Greet on Monday, April 20th and will run M-F 6:30-9:30pm.
No rehearsals Saturday May 23 – Monday May 25th due to the Memorial Day Holiday.
Additional Mandatory dates – must be available to be considered for casting:
- Volunteer Day: Saturday, May 16th
- Load in: Sunday, June 14th
- Tech rehearsals: Monday June 15 – Friday June 19th
- Strike: Sunday, June 28th after the matinee performance
Performances will be at Oltman Middle School Auditorium on the following dates:
- Saturday, June 20th at 7pm
- Sunday, June 21st at 3pm
- Monday, June 22nd at 7pm
- Friday, June 26th at 7pm
- Saturday, June 27th at 3pm
- Saturday, June 27th at 7pm
- Sunday, June 28th at 3pm
While ODCT is no longer requiring proof of COVID vaccination to audition, it does reserve the right to ask cast members to test or mask following known exposures in the interest of the healthy and safety of fellow cast members, crew members, and the directing team.
