Jack Lambert
Director
Jack Lambert is thrilled to be directing Seussical at Open Door, as it was the first musical that he ever participated in as a kid. Since then, he graduated from Carthage College with a BA in Musical Theater and a minor in Business in 2016. He currently works as the Youth Programming Director at Ashland Productions, where he has directed shows and established theater programs for kids of all ages. Jack is also a performer who you may have seen as Dewey Finn (School of Rock, Open Door), Emmett Forrest (Legally Blonde, Ashland Productions), or Lefou (Beauty and the Beast, Ashland Productions). When not performing in theater, he has also been seen in his pop-punk band PUNX or as Buddy Holly in a few tribute shows. The ability to think and imagine as freely as Dr. Seuss wanted us to is one thing that has driven Jack through life so far, and that’s exactly what this show is all about. He can’t wait for everyone to have a blast watching this show!
Rachel Sandstrom
Music Director
Rachel is honored to music direct for Open Door’s production of Seussical. She has previously music directed for Woodbury Theater and led a children’s choir at a church in White Bear Lake. She also taught private voice and piano lessons for 18 years. She is a graduate of Gustavus Adolphus College, where she majored in Music, with honors in Vocal Performance. She performs professionally and in local community theaters, including a production of Seussical many years ago!
Story Line
In this classic and quirky musical based on the beloved characters of Dr. Seuss, The Cat in the Hat tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust that contains the Whos, including Jojo, a Who child sent off to military school for thinking too many “thinks.” Horton faces a double challenge: not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must guard an abandoned egg, left in his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family and community are challenged and emerge triumphant.
