Matilda Auditions

Thank you for your interest in auditioning for Open Door Community Theatre’s production of Matilda!

Ages 8 and up are welcome to audition. For additional background on the musical and a character breakdown, click here: Link to Character Descriptions.

We hope to see a broad and diverse spectrum of performers at auditions and are open to non-traditional casting.

We are open to double casting youth roles only based on audition turnout. 

Please prepare 60-90 seconds of a musical theater piece for your vocal audition. Bring sheet music in the key in which you plan to perform (an accompanist will be provided; tracks or a capella are also acceptable), a resume, and a headshot. Come dressed to move – after your vocal audition be prepared to stay to do a small group dance audition.  

Auditions will take place: 

• Wednesday, November 12th 5:30 – 9pm
• Thursday, November 13th 5:30 – 9pm
• Invited callbacks will take place the evening of Monday, November 17th. 

Auditions and callbacks will be held at King of Kings Lutheran Church, 1583 Radio Dr, Woodbury, MN 55125. 

Video auditions will only be accepted on a case-by-case basis and are due by Saturday, November 15th.  Please reach out to alex@opendoorcommunitytheatre.org for such requests.

Rehearsals will begin with an All Cast Meet and Greet on Tuesday, November 18th and will run M-F 6:30-9:30pm. We plan to structure the rehearsal schedule so we can dismiss kids under high school age by 8:30pm at the latest.

No rehearsals November 27-28 and December 22-January 2 due to Holidays.

Mandatory dates

Must be available to be considered for casting:

• Load in: Saturday, January 17th
• Tech rehearsals: Sunday 1/18 – Thursday 1/22
• Strike: Sunday, February 1st after the matinee performance

We will do our best to only call performers when they are expected to rehearse, to use everyone’s time wisely, and conflicts will be honored to the best of our abilities. Rehearsals will be held in Woodbury or neighboring community – more details TBD.

• Saturday, January 24th at 7pm
• Sunday, January 25th at 3pm
• Monday, January 26th at 7pm
• Thursday, January 29th at 7pm
• Saturday, January 31st at 7pm
• Sunday, February 1st at 3pm

While ODCT is no longer requiring proof of COVID vaccination to audition, it does reserve the right to ask cast members to test or mask following known exposures in the interest of the healthy and safety of fellow cast members, crew members, and the directing team.
